Geddes, Margaret; ”As I was saying…” – the wit and wisdom of Australian women; 1990

Women were always there, cooking, washing, scrubbing, feeding children and husbands. Without them, there wouldn’t be a history, yet history is written as if they weren’t there. – Kate Grenville, 1987

We need men, even ones who blow their noses in the shower, because they can give us means to give birth to more feminists and then we can take over the wor…Sorry, got a bit carried away. – Kaz Cookie, 1986

One would think that more than ten years after Women’s Liberation we would get our sons’ education right. But recently…groups of 13-15 year old girls were asked what they wanted to do after they left school. They all wanted a career… They all wanted to get married. They all wanted to have a family but to continue to work. The same question was put to boys of the same age… They all said they wanted to have a career… They all wanted to marry and have a family. They would let their wives work…let their wives work…until the babies were born. We are still raising cavemen. – Ita Buttrose, 1982
